Come sit on the porch with me…

 

Florida may not hand us crisp fall mornings just yet, but October still has its own kind of beauty. The days are a touch shorter, the evenings sometimes bring a gentle breeze, and football hums in the background on Saturdays and Sundays.

 

This month always feels like a season of both gathering and gratitude. Even without leaves changing colors all around us, October reminds me to pause, look around, and thank God for the blessings right here on this porch.

 

October is also a special month because it holds Mr. Bar Rocking N’s birthday. 🥳 He’s not one for much fuss, but you can bet there will be a good meal, plenty of laughter, and a few stories told as we mark another year of life together. Around here, birthdays aren’t about big parties — they’re about the people who matter most. I can already picture it: family and friends pulled up on the porch, sharing food, swapping stories, and staying long after the sun goes down. That’s the kind of celebration that fills the heart.

 

And speaking of stories — some of you may not know the story behind Bar Rocking N. It’s not just a name we came up with one day. It was Randy’s family brand, tied to his roots and history. Carrying it forward here on our farm feels like both a legacy and a blessing. Every time I see it stamped on a loaf of bread, stitched on fabric, or signed at the bottom of these Porch Notes, I think of the generations before us who worked hard, loved deep, and built a life worth passing on.

 

Of course, farm life keeps moving right along: the chickens are still laying steady, rabbit breeding will begin soon, and I’m still over here dreaming of the day a Jersey cow makes her way into my life. 🐓🐇🐄

 

Around here, the porch becomes a place for:
✝️ Starting our mornings in prayer and Scripture, letting God’s Word settle our hearts.
🍂 Finding little hints of fall — maybe it’s pumpkins on the porch or just swapping iced coffee for hot.
🏈 Football games that bring friends and family together, even if half of us are cheering for different teams.
🤎 Remembering that simple joys are often the sweetest ones.
