Summer has officially settled in here at Bar Rocking N, and the farm is buzzing with life—literally and figuratively. From fuzzy new animals to a garden bursting with goodness, every day brings a little more joy (and a whole lot of dirt under the nails). Here’s what’s happening around the homestead:
Two New Baby Bunnies
We’re excited to share that we have two new baby bunnies on the farm! These little ones are part of our meat rabbit program, which we’re expanding with care and purpose. We aim to offer rabbit meat starting this fall, providing a sustainable, ethically raised protein option for our local community. For now, these sweet babies are thriving and growing fast!
Nine New Chicks for Our Laying Flock
We’ve also welcomed nine new chicks to the farm! They’re still in the brooder, but before long they’ll join our hardworking hens, who are laying like absolute champs right now. Nothing beats farm-fresh eggs, and our flock is keeping our baskets full each day. These new chicks will help ensure we stay well-stocked for months to come.
The Garden is in Full Swing
The garden is giving us everything we hoped for—and more! Right now, we’re harvesting:
Okra
Zipper peas
Cream 40 peas
Corn
Tomatoes
Pickling cucumbers
Peppers (hot & sweet!)
And of course, a variety of herbs that we keep growing year-round
With so much coming in, the kitchen has turned into a preserving powerhouse. We’re canning tomatoes, pickling cucumbers, blanching and freezing peas, drying herbs, and putting up as much food as we can for the seasons ahead. There’s something so satisfying about a pantry shelf lined with homegrown jars—it’s the heartbeat of our homestead kitchen.
Handmade with Love: Sewing & Embroidery
When we’re not outside, we’re at the sewing machine or embroidery machine. Right now we’re focused on practical, beautiful pieces like beeswax breadbags, farmhouse aprons, and homey touches for around the house. Every stitch reminds us to slow down and appreciate the art of homemade living.
Fresh-Milled Flour for Everyday Favorites
Our fresh-milled flour continues to be one of our favorite ingredients in the kitchen. From rustic loaves and biscuits to cookies and pie crusts, milling our own grains adds a depth of flavor (and nutrition!) that store-bought flour just can’t match. If you’ve never baked with freshly milled flour, trust us—you’re in for a treat.
And don’t forget—I’m still here, ready to fill your orders for fresh milled flour goodies! Whether you're craving a warm loaf of bread, granola bars or sweet treats, the Bar Rocking N cottage bakery is always open for you. Just reach out—we’ll bake it with love and fresh-milled goodness.
Rooted in Gratitude
Whether it’s raising rabbits, gathering eggs, sewing with love, or filling the pantry with garden goodness, life on the homestead is full and fulfilling. We’re so thankful to share this journey with you and can’t wait to offer even more from our farm to yours as the seasons roll on.
Thanks for following along and supporting what we do.
With love from the land,
The Bar Rocking N Family
